"In the pole vault, Bane led the way for Illinois by setting a personal best for the third week in a row after clearing a height of 17-0 ¾ (5.20m), which tied the 10th-best mark in UI history. On his third attempt, he equaled the mark set by event winner Michael Viken of Eastern Illinois, who went over the bar on his first try. The Rochester, Ill., native entered the weekend ranked third in the Big Ten in the event.
