Mary (Danner) Wineberg (women's track and field, 1998-2002) won an Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, becoming the fourth former UC student-athlete to accomplish such a feat. Wineberg's gold came as a member of the USA 4x400 meter relay team, which posted a winning time of 3:18.54 on the world's greatest stage. Wineberg qualified for the Olympic team with a runner-up finish at the 2008 US Olympic Trials in the 400 meters. She finished the 2007 and 2008 track and field seasons ranked in the Top 10 in the world in her event. The UC record holder in the outdoor 400 meters, she was runner-up at the 2002 Conference USA Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
"I am extremely honored and excited to be inducted into the James P. Kelly, Sr. Athletics Hall of Fame. The University has done a great job of supporting all my endeavors and I look forward to being around for a while as a positive role model to all," said Wineberg. "This was a huge surprise and I will cherish the moment forever! I look forward to being included among all the greats from all eras of UC history."
